PokerStars has shortened standard Sit & Gos to 5-max
PokerStars tests the transition from 6-max tables to 5-max. The changes have been made at the $1.5, $3.5 and $7 buy-ins. Moreover, the changes affected all formats: regular SnG tournaments, turbo and hyper-turbo. In addition, the Fifty50 SNGs (a hybrid of regular SNGs and DoNs) have also been shortened from 10-max to 8-max.
The payout structure has also been changed slightly. From now on, it is 70/30 for Top 2, and not 65/35 as it used to be in 6-max. By the way, Stars are not the first ones to do that, similar changes have been made at Unibet earlier.
In general, the logic of the adjustments is obvious: shorter tables are gathered faster, and the number of games per hour increases noticeably. The variance and the amount of rake increases though. And this, in turn, is not very popular among regulars.
However, it must be admitted that in recent years the interest in classic Sit & Go tournaments continues to decline against the background of their lottery modifications. Perhaps, such changes will be just as well. Who knows…
