Overview: Online Poker Market in Denmark in Q3
Online poker revenue in Denmark dropped in the third quarter. With a total market revenue of DKK 28.2 million, online poker revenue dropped by 1.4% compared to the previous year.
Despite this change, poker still holds a strong position in the Danish market, as it showed 34% growth in the second quarter, during the first wave of the global lockdown, although before that the online poker market had dropped every quarter.
Concerning other gambling verticals, it should be noted that there is a slight decrease in revenue as well.
For example, online casino revenues fell 2% compared to last year. This is the worst performance in the history of the Danish market, as there is almost no seasonal variations. Since 2014, the Danish market has seen an annual decline in only one quarter (the first quarter of this year), but it was insignificant though - less than a percent.
Sports betting recovered somewhat in the third quarter and the revenues returned to their usual levels. However, it now stands at DKK 360 million, 15% less than last year. During 2018 and 2019, the market generated over DKK 400 million each quarter, so the market still has the potential to fully recover from the coronavirus crisis.
