Germany plans to introduce 5% tax on online poker
The finance ministries of the federal states of Germany are intended to introduce special taxes on slot machines and online poker: 8% for slots and 5.3% for poker. Everything is relatively clear with online slots: the tax will be charged on each spin, but there is no such clarity with online poker.
Nevertheless, representatives of legal online casino brands have already expressed deep concern, because if a player gives €0.08 from each €1 bet, then it will be easier for him to go to “gray” brands and, in this case, the whole idea of legalizing gambling in Germany may fail.
The regulator has not explained yet how the tax will be calculated in poker, but they are confident that such a law will be adopted.
At the same time, the German tax authorities estimate the income from the tax on poker and slot machines at €1.365 billion.
